Congratulations to this years 1st winners of the Golden Broom Award!

Not all heroes wear capes - some fly brooms, defy gravity, and leave a trail of brilliance wherever they go. This year, the Golden Broom Award will be periodically given to a person or a group of people who rise above expectations. The Golden Broom honors those who are wickedly great, do their BEARCAT BEST, challenge the status quo, and bring a little magic to everything they do!To start the year, three honorees were selected as Golden Broom winners for July. This summer, Mr. Dan Pepper generously gave his time and talents to Long Beach Middle School, volunteering nearly every day beginning in June. He tackled a wide range of small projects—ones that weren’t urgent but made a big difference in the overall function and appearance of our campus. With care and attention to detail, Mr. Pepper walked through every classroom, creating a punch list of needs that included patching walls, removing outdated brackets and hooks, replacing missing ceiling tiles and carpet squares, and completing touch-up painting. He checked off this punch list, day by day, bringing new life to many learning spaces across the building. One of his most impactful projects was a construction update in the library that opened up space for additional seating and collaboration for both students and staff. He also provided paint and repainted the faculty workroom, helping to create a more welcoming environment for our staff. Mr. Pepper willingly provided his muscle as well—helping move classroom furniture in and out as floors were completed, easing the burden on our custodial and maintenance staff. From building bookshelves for teachers to power washing sidewalks and assisting our housekeeping team with floors, Mr. Pepper stepped in wherever he saw a need—always with a spirit of service and visible pride in our school. We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort, and heart he poured into our campus. Mr. Pepper didn’t just lend a hand—he made an impact. His contributions were not only appreciated, but truly golden.-I have to brag on Alisha Westbrook and Yorisha Hunt here at Quarles Elementary! Both of these teachers have gone above and beyond preparing the school for our students and their families! They have pressured washed, weeded, trimmed trees, pulled vines off the building (risking being attacked by wasps), painted bubbles around bulletin boards, and repainted the pencil columns outside! They have worked late into the evening and on the weekends! We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to Quarles! All with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts! Words really don't express how thankful we are – They are truly golden!————Congratulations Mr. Pepper, Ms. Westbrook and Ms. Hunt!
